Partners

The initiative involves the participation of six partners: the Girona Greenways Consortium, responsible for leading the project, the Figueres City Council, the Pyrénées-Orientales General Council, the Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole, the Alt Empordà Regional Council and the Diputació de Girona.

The ultimate aim of the project is to link the tourist destinations in the Girona province with those of the Pyrénées-Orientales department in France through a cycling network which includes links to different modes of public transport.

Vies Verdes

Girona Vies Verdes,an initiative launched in 2003 and integrated within the Girona Provincial Council and local municipalities and regional councils named in the statutes. Its principal aim is to maintain and improve the greenways infrastructure, promote its use and extend the network. Since 2013, it has also been responsible for the management of the Pirinexus network: a 353km cycle route that links the Girona region with French Catalonia.

Figueres City Council

The Figueres City Council is organised into five administrative and service areas: Economic and General Services, Citizens’ Services, Regional Services, Services for Economic Promotion and Urban Services.

Pyrénées Orientales

The Département des Pyrénées-Orientales is the deliberative assembly of the French department of the Pyrénées-Orientales, a decentralised regional unit located in the south of the Occitan region. It is composed of 34 general councillors representing the 17 cantons of the Eastern Pyrenees area, i.e., Northern Catalonia and the Occitan area of ​​La Fenolleda. The department headquarters are located in Perpignan. French departments are categorised by number and the Pyrénées-Orientales department is no. 66.

Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole

The Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole is a supramunicipal collective which, governed by the general code of territorial collectives, includes 36 municipalities that have decided to jointly manage common service areas and is based Perpignan. The urban community manages a variety of areas in each of its member cities, which transfer their relevant competences in the areas of transport, planning, waste, water, music, housing and economic development.

Alt Empordà Regional Council

The Alt Empordà Regional Council is the institution that represents the 68 municipalities in the Alt Empordà region. Established in 1987, it provides services in a diverse range of areas, such as social services, housing, environment, culture, sports, youth, economic promotion and tourism; the latter of which is responsible for the coordination of the BICITRANSCAT project.

Diputació de Girona

The Diputació de Girona is the regional government body for the whole of the Girona area. Its geographical area includes all the municipalities from Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà, Cerdanya, Garrotxa, Gironès, Pla de l’Estany, Ripollès and Selva, in addition to three from Osona (Espinelves, Viladrau and Vidrà). The Diputació is made up of twenty-seven deputies, selected via municipal elections. Its offices are located in the Old Town of Girona, at 4-5 Pujada de Sant Martí.
